Windows that will not close, drop on their hinges, let in draughts or have misted up can usually be repaired for a fraction of the cost of replacement.
Not every problem window needs replacing. Hewitts Home Renovations repairs uPVC and aluminium windows across our five counties, fixing the moving parts and glass so your existing windows work like new. We will always tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement is the right call.
Common repairs include friction hinges that have worn so the sash drops or will not close, handles that spin or have snapped, espagnolette locks and shootbolts that no longer engage, gaskets and seals that have shrunk and let in draughts, and misted or cracked glass units. We carry a wide range of parts and can usually match older hardware.
We also fit child restrictors, upgrade to lockable handles, replace trickle vents, cure condensation problems and re-seal frames externally. If the frames themselves have failed, gone brittle or discoloured beyond saving, we will say so and quote for a replacement instead.
Repairs are typically completed in a single visit. Where parts need ordering we return within a week.

Yes. Hinges, handles, locks, gaskets and glass units on uPVC windows are all replaceable. Most windows under 25 years old are worth repairing if the frame is sound.

Almost always. A dropped sash is usually caused by worn friction hinges. We replace them with new heavy-duty hinges and realign the window.
Yes. Draughts are usually caused by shrunken gaskets, worn seals or a sash that is out of adjustment. We replace the seals and adjust the hardware.
If the frames are sound and less than 25 years old, repair is usually the sensible choice. If frames are brittle, discoloured, warped or several windows have failed, replacement is often better value in the long run. We give an honest recommendation after looking at them.
